So what is this chapter saying? Is God telling us that if we want to make a vow (or to dedicate ourselves to the Lord) we need to abstain from any grape products and from cutting our hair? No, He’s not (unless you feel compelled to make the Nazirite Vow). God wants to see changes within our life when we vow to follow Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” By dedicating yourself to Jesus you are saying, “create in me a clean heart!”
And from the famous Aaronic benediction from God Himself! (vs. 24-26):
May “‘the Lord bless you, and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.’” Amen.
