The story continues where it left off yesterday. Balaam will attempt to curse Israel.
Numbers 23:8, 11-12,25-26
“How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how can I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?”
Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have actually blessed them!” He replied, “Must I not be careful to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?”
Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!” But Balaam replied to Balak, “Did I not tell you, ‘[e]Whatever the Lord speaks, that I must do’?”
This reminds me of the story in Zechariah chapter 4. There the high priest Joshua stand before the Lord dressed in filthy garments and Satan accuses Joshua of being a sinner. But the Lord rebukes Satan:”The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” and commands His angels to cover Joshua with clean garments.
No matter how much Satan desired to accuse or curse God’s chosen ones he is not able. Rather God turns the situation for a blessing. Are you covered with Christ’s garment, His righteousness? Gal 3:27,”For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
