Psalm 14 – “I Don’t Need God”

Have you ever heard that? It may be someone who you know. Whoever they may be they do not know what they are saying.

1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed abominable [a]deeds;
There is no one who does good.
2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men
To see if there are any who [b]understand,
Who seek after God.
3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt;
There is no one who does good, not even one.

4 Do all the workers of wickedness not know,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call upon the Lord?
5 There they are in great dread,
For God is with the righteous generation.
6 You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted,
But the Lord is his refuge.

7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel [c]would come out of Zion!
When the Lord [d]restores His captive people,

Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.

As I read this I can easily start thinking “you know I am pretty good, better than those atheist and those who have left God.” Then i realize that Paul in Romans 3:10-12 quotes from verse 2-3 to prove that everyone is a sinner and needs a Savior. What a humbly thought; those fools are need of Savior just as me. There is hope for those that we know as atheist or those “out of church” because before we knew Jesus we were like them, in need of a Savior. So lets not look down at them but pray upward for them.
I am comforted that God does not look over the way His people are treated by those who do not acknowledge Him. Those who are being mistreated, taken advantage of, and are slaves to someone else–God calls them His people. God is our refuge.
Through the hard times less never forget that God sees everything that is happening to us and He will restore us.

God Bless,
