Recently I have been trying to memorize portions of the Bible that I really enjoy. These texts include Romans 8, Ephesians 3, and more recently Luke 4:18 has become a favorite of mine as it describes Christ mission foretold by Isaiah hundreds of years earlier. This Psalm is also very much linked to the previous Psalms as it refers to judgment but, above all, a declaration of victory and deliverance.
From heaven you sentenced your enemies;
the earth trembled and stood silent before you.
You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God,
and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude
Human defiance only enhances your glory,
for you use it as a weapon.
If you didn’t look up what Luke 4:18 says here it is: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.” As I look at the life of Christ I see that His was a life of releasing people from the bondage of sin that often times manifested itself in bodily diseases. It was Christ’s desire to restore humanity to the image of the Creator that sin had marred. But today we can also live in the blessed hope that Christ will someday soon come back to deliver us from and destroy sin forever.
Don’t you want to be delivered from the pain, suffering, a struggles of this world? Then, allow Christ to dwell in your heart, through faith, and the peace which passes all understanding will guard your heart in Christ Jesus untill the day He returns.
“Christ in me = the hope of glory!”
