Where have I heard this before, perhaps this Psalm was written by Solomon. This is a short passage but with a large message.
127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To [a]retire late,
To eat the bread of [b]painful labors;
For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.
3 Behold, children are a [c]gift of the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
What does this remind you of? We can go in many directions with this but today we will go this way, to a good Old Testament prophecy which was fulfilled in the in the New Testament.
God promised that a building was going to be erected, “the stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.” Ps 118:22. That stone was none other than the Good Lord, Jesus Christ. Acts 4:10-11. So what building was constructed on Jesus, the foundation. “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Mt 16:18. The Church was built on Jesus. Lets look at this church in 1 Pet 2:5, “you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” So the Church was built on Jesus as the corner stone in which He gives us the opportunity to be part of. Isn’t that exciting we can part of something that God Himself is part of, wow, really read 1 Pet 2:1-12.
But wait, it gets even better. This Psalm gives us a law, that unless God build the house it will not stand.
The Church is built on Jesus, therefore, His church cannot and will not fail, it is not built in vain. Take joy because you are part it and Jesus will finish what He started in you. If you have not joined this building, come inside, you wont regret it.
