1 Corinthians 12 – Incredible Gifts

How do you know if the Holy Spirit is in you? Paul makes it short and simple:

Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:3

If you’ve ever wondered if the Holy Spirit is actually working on you, you don’t have to wonder anymore! Do you love Jesus? Do you think about Him? Then the Spirit of God is in you!

If you keep reading, you’ll find out that the Holy Spirit gives more gifts than just an acknowledgment of Jesus.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
Verses 4-6

There are many ways that the Holy

Spirit works in us, and Paul lists a few of those:

  • Sharing wisdom
  • Sharing knowledge
  • Faith
  • Healing
  • Working miracles
  • Ability to prophecy
  • Ability to distinguish between spirits (right and wrong)
  • Ability to speak different languages (tongues)
  • Ability to interpret different languages (tongues)

1 Corinthians 12

This list includes just a few of the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us. And Paul assures us that none of these gifts are better than another. Not everyone will have all of these gifts! Some people have lots of wisdom, but can only speak one language. Others are good at speaking multiple languages, but cannot easily translate between languages.

I’m so thankful to serve a God that gives us His Holy Spirit to give us gifts to share with others and to share with His church! And all these gifts of the Spirit were made possible because Jesus, in His infinite wisdom, sent us a Comforter to guide us into all truth, convict us, and give us incredible gifts!

In Christ Alone, we have the Holy Spirit!
