What would you do if your whole family’s fate lay on your decision to kneel and worship a human being? To do so would be to reject Jesus. Would you give worship or refuse to and be loyal to God? Even if it meant that your family would have to pay the price?
When Haman saw that Mordecai neither bowed down nor paid homage to him, Haman was filled with rage. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him who the people of Mordecai were; therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.
Do you think Mordecai would have worshiped (given homage) to Haman if he knew that not doing so would put to death not only his family but his whole nation? What would you have done? Is it okay that one shall die to save all? That is a hard choice. Or is it?
What Mordecai demonstrates is that he is not going to worship anyone but God, regardless of the consequences. Haman is a figure of Satan, who would do anything, even involve people who are not connected with the problem, to receive worship, all because God’s people embarrassed him before others. The people that Satan involved in this situation were actually connected with the problem. To Satan all the Jews were the problem, because the Messiah was promised to come through them and destroy him. So he thought “I got them, I will finally destroy them and win the War.” Again heaven’s and hell’s armies formed to battle in the desert of Mesopotamia…Who won?
