Highly honored by the Lord of hosts in the kingdom of Babylon, God also promoted Daniel to be first among the administration in the Medo-Persian kingdom besides the king “because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.” (What is stopping us from having this spirit?) Moved by hatred rooted in envy and jealousy, the administration beneath Daniel “sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful.” (If only we could have this account to us.) Therefore they conceived a wicked plan under the guise of caring for the kingdom. These wicked administrators crafted a decree that no one should petition any God or man except it be to the king; therefore the king ratified the decree “that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.”
It was through policy that Daniel, a man beloved of God, was caused to be cast into a den of lions. Of course, an angel of God shut the mouth of the lions, but Daniel was there as the result of a policy that stated, “It must be done this way because we have said it has to be this way.” Policy declares, “We have voted thus, and it cannot be changed.” The belief that “no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed” allowed the crisis that brought a great trial of faith to a man full of faith. Many adhere to enacted policies created by man, as if these should be as immutable as the laws enacted by king Darius, while they lightly esteem the commandments and principles handed to mankind by One who is too wise to err. Policy is a tyrant that moves others to arrest caring men who feed the homeless. It was through carefully constructed policy that the priests and rulers put to death the Son of God under a plea of goodness. The same means used against Christ will be used against His servants in the last days as “the dragon” is “wroth with the woman,” and making undercurrents of movements “to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Policies enacted with the plea that they are needful for society will bring God’s people into a time of trouble such as never was. Receiving enough votes and public sentiments to try to gain “peace and safety” though yielding liberties will result in slowly but surely eroding our Constitutional rights to pave way for the overthrow of religious liberty in America. A careful and deep study of prophecy coupled with the understanding of how Satan has moved in the past will do much to show what is to be. But as God did not forget Daniel in the lions’ den, He will not forget those follow Him by faith in His Word and commandments.
May you dare to be a Daniel and live by faith and not by policy,
